Things To Look For In A Divorce Lawyer

Is Realistic and is willing to say no, even to you.
You want someone who will let you know if you are wasting your time not someone who just tells you what you want to hear.

Puts your children's needs first:
You want someone that will not take advantage of the fact that children are involved or that will manipulate the children in the case.

Stays calm:
Your Lawyer should be able to handle your case in a calm controlled manner. You don' want someone who will lose patience when dealing with you or your spouse's lawyer.

Knows how to play the game AND is Experienced:
Your lawyer should have a reasonable amount of experience, you want someone who knows the law, has had previous dealing with the judge and even with your spouse's lawyer.

Are they trustworthy:
Do not hire a lawyer who has a reputation of being a bully, manipulative, who has little or no morals and who has questionable ethics.  If a judge knows of this type of behaviour your lawyer will not get away with it, and it may end up costing you.

How much will they charge:
Do the charge per hour, what is your hourly rate. Is there additional costs for photo copying, faxing etc. Can hey give you  an estimate of the total costs?

Do they carry malpractice insurance:
You want someone who is covered because this insurance also protects you.

A Good Reputation:
Do some research on Local lawyers, ask around and see if anyone has dealt with the lawyer you are considering and ask how they felt he handled their case. Also go online and see if there are any customer reviews for your lawyer.
